Lynn Margulis Fund 2019 – Florence Bansept & Anna Roik

The Lynn Margulis fund supports outstanding female postdocs and advanced female doctoral researchers of the CRC 1182 once per year with up to 10,000 €. The fund must be used for a research stay abroad in the laboratory of a distinguished female scientist host.


In 2019 the fund was spitted between two awardees into two times 5,000 €.

Dr. Anna Roik

Postdoc of the lab of Prof. Dr. Ute Hentschel Humeida at the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research GEOMAR, received the funding for her proposed project “Coral microbiome transplantation – Towards a functional understanding of a probiotic therapy for corals“, which she will conduct in close cooperation with her female scientist host Prof. Dr. Raquel Peixoto, Institute of Microbiology, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil and Genome Center, University of California, Davis, CA, USA.

Dr. Flornece Bansept

Postdoc of the lab of Prof. Dr. Arne Traulsen at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology, received the funding for her proposed project “Selection of in silico microbial communities“, which she will conduct in close cooperation with her female scientist host Dr. Wenying Shou, Associate Member in the Basic Sciences Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle.
