Regulation of antiviral immunity by the multibiome
More and more, we are coming to appreciate the influence that the
bacteria that live on and in our intestines, lungs and skin have on human health. These microbial communities provide protection from invading pathogens, educate our immune system, and can protect us from developing allergies. Bacterial communities are the focus of many microbiome studies, yet the microbial communities can also include archaea, fungi, protists and other eukaryotic species. Our lab is interested in understanding how relationships between colonizing species and the host shape immunity and inflammation. In this seminar, I will discuss recent findings demonstrating that the scope and magnitude of intestinal antiviral immunity can be altered by the environment (helminths) and genetics.
