CRC 1182 at Kieler Woche 2025
The CRC 1182 was represented again at Kieler Woche together with Kiel Life Science and the PMI cluster this year. In a joint pagoda at Kiel University’s “kieler uni live” event on the lawn in front of the International Meeting Centre (IBZ), they organized an exiting programme focused on microbiome and inflammation research. There were several specific Metaorganism-specific topics included, presented by young researchers from our centre:
“Digital Meta” Science Poster:
Highly complex interactions within a metaorganism explained in a visually appealing way? The “Digital Meta” science poster solves this difficult task easily. The interactive app on the concepts of host-microbe-interactions, using five different model organisms as examples, was presented by PhD-students of the CRC 1182.

Crafting Sponge Pop-Up Cards:
Sponges have lots of flatmates – their microbial symbionts. In this playful format, school students craft cardboard pop-up cards and learn about the interaction between hosts and microbes in the process, using marine sponges as an example.

Furthermore, the TransEvo Research Training Group was also represented at “kieler uni live”, with several PhD-students performing sketches based on their research on translational evolutionary research, for example on the evolution of antibiotic resistance. This contribution is part of the Science Theatre format with young researchers. It is organized by Kiel University’s Graduate Center, aiming at exciting the public excited about science.
