Felix Sommer & Malte Rühlemann: 16S Amplicon Sequencing Workshop – 28.-29.06.2018

This workshop will cover the complete workflow of 16S bacterial amplicon sequencing from sample preparation to sequencing and data analysis in a mixture of seminars/presentations (experimental design, sample preparation, NGS) and hands on practical work (quality check, data analysis using QIIME and other tools). The workshop aims to provide the capability to perform standard 16S based analyses of microbial communities: OTU clustering, taxonomic assignment, diversity measures, statistical evaluations, indicator species and more.

Instructors

Workshop information

When: Two full days, June 28th and 29th
Where: Center for Molecular Biosciences, Am Botanischen Garten 11, 24118 Kiel
Targeted audience: Anyone working or planning to work with amplicon based sequencing data.

Note: This 16S workshop will be accompanied by the Young Investigator Research Day (YIRD) conference of the Collaborative Research Center 1182 “Origin and Function of Metaorganisms”. We encourage participants to also sign up for the YIRD. Further information on the YIRD can be found here.

Ideally participants should bring their own laptop to be used for the analyses (facilitating own future analyses). Alternatively, access to laptops/PCs will also be made available. Please indicate at registration whether you will bring your own laptop.

We will provide tutorial data. However, if you have own 16S sequencing data, it will also be possible to additionally analyze this data.
